"Wow, look at this purple that I made!"
"Ohhhh, look I made a light blue!"
"No way! How'd you do that?!"
The second-graders shouts clamored through the room. I thought about plugging my ears against the noise, but didn't want to deny myself witness to their wonder and awe of something as simple as mixing paint colors.
When do we as adults start to lose that sense of wonder? Why? I thought to myself.
I constantly marvel at children's ability to see magic in the smallest things. A giant worm wriggling in the dirt, pine cones, falling leaves, rainbow crayons, scented markers, puppets. Their joy is contagious and heart-warming.
How do we hold on to that as we age? When can we experience that as adults juggling the realities of the "real world"? Do we wait until we are on vacation once or twice each year?
What comes so naturally to children is something that as adults we have to choose to do.
Choose to look up from the screen, to unplug our ears, to actively seek the beauty and wonder around us.
Wouldn't that be a wonderful game to play?
How many moments of awe can you experience on your way to work? In your home? On a walk?
Let's be intentional and re-discover the magic of life.
